About Kami

Hello! I’m Kami

CEO/Designer

My name is Kami. I am 23 years old. I have Down syndrome.

I like beads to make bracelets, necklaces, and garden stakes.  I enjoy watching movies – scary movies and Disney movies are my favorite!

I spend a lot of my time listening to music and drawing.

I go to the Be Yourself group a few times a week with other girls. I get to cook, play games, exercise,  and do crafts. Spending time with my family is important to me, I love them.

I have friends I like to spend time with –  eating, coloring, dancing, and laughing!  I like swimming too and doing my own nails.

I keep myself busy and try to be involved in my community as much as I can.

A Message from the Family:

We helped Kami start her business in July of 2024.

She has always enjoyed using her creative side to make unique creations, especially with beads.

Beadwork is soothing to her and has been a hobby of hers since she was very young.

When she made her first garden stake, we were amazed at how it came out.

She gifted one to her mom and she put it in her house plant.

It added a nice touch to the plant and she was excited to see her own creation add such a fun spin to it!

The colors were gleaming in the sunlight and right then, we knew we had to help her add this spark to other people’s lives.

We hope that with her handmade garden and plant stakes, you will experience the same joy that we have.

We appreciate your support and thank you for helping to spread the fun and awesome ability of the work of Down to Earth!

Down Syndrome Awareness:

Down syndrome is a condition in which there is a copy of chromosome 21, making 47 chromosomes in total. Every person with Down syndrome has an extra chromosome on chromosome 21 in some or in all of their cells.

There are 3 types of Down syndrome: Trisomy 21, Mosaicism, and Translocation. Each type has their distinct genetic makeup and expression.

With this, Down syndrome causes distinct facial features, potential intellectual and developmental delays, and may be associated with heart or thyroid disease. About 1 in 700 people have Down syndrome and it is not something that can be “cured.” Instead, there are healthy ways to bring attention to some of these things.

This may include specialized doctors for medical care, special education teachers, therapists of various kinds, and a supportive circle. It takes a village and a very caring one at that!

Thankfully, research and recent technology has been able to help us understand what Down syndrome truly is. And that it’s ok. There are a lot of misconceptions and there is no better solution to that than awareness and acceptance. For those who may not know, ask questions and be curious.

For those who do know, spread your knowledge and your kindness – it goes a long way!  For all of us – spread love and be inclusive!

Supporting Down to Earth is more than just supporting a business. It is supporting an entire community. It sheds light on the individuals who may not otherwise get that attention. It brings a sense of humanity back into the world and awareness to individuals with disabilities.

Down to Earth is here to represent all individuals with Down syndrome, as well as other disabilities. It shows the world what we are capable of and the sky’s the limit!
